Health & Wellness ‘Sante Se Lavi’ (Health is Life) program to provide important health information as well community resources in Haitian Kreyol. The acute need for such program was especially important as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic which disproportionately impact the Black community of Central Brooklyn. Partnering to support the communities with culturally relevant and multilingual information on health and the program draws upon the vulnerable communities' strong linkage to cultural identity and pride to produce virtual and written material. The program has been incredibly has utilized a multi-modal strategy that includes virtual programming, social media posts and stream to local radio station.
We develop culturally responsive, patient-centered health promotion materials to mitigate barriers and empower our target community with necessary health information. The vision is to build the capacity of the local healthcare infrastructure and community-based organizations to serve this particularly marginalized community.
